Richard II crowned King of England at age ten
1386 Henry Bolingbroke marries Mary de Bohun, sister of Eleanor de Bohun, making Gloucester and Bolingbrook both uncle and nephew AND brothers-in-law
1387 Prince Hal, son of Henry Bolingbroke, and future Henry V, is born
1389 John, son of Henry Bolingbroke, is born
1394 Mary de Bohun, wife of Henry Bolingbroke, dies
1396 John of Gaunt marries (again) Katherine Swinford, with whom he had fathered four children in the 1370’s
1413 Henry the Fourth dies; Henry the Fifth is coronated
1415 THE EVENTS OF HENRTY THE FIFTH BEGIN
The Southampton Plot put down (August 1)
Henry and his army sail for France (August 11)
Harfleur is besieged (August 17)
Harfleur is captured (September 22)
Henry begins to march his troops to Calais where he can rest his army (October 8)
Battle of Agincourt (October 25)
1417 Second French Campaign begins
1420 Treaty of Troyes signed, recognizing Henry as King of France (after Charles VI’s death), and Henry’s sons as the line of succession for the French throne (May 21)
THE EVENTS OF HENRY THE FIFTH END
Henry marries Catherine, Princess of France (June 2)
1421 As the Treaty of Troyes did NOT end of the French war, Henry returned for a third campaign (June)
Henry the Sixth is born (December)
1422 Henry the Fifth dies near Paris, probably of dysentery (August)
Henry the Sixth becomes “King of England” at nine months old
Charles VI dies (October)… since Charles died AFTER Henry, Henry the Fifth was never King of France
