AYL: and let the blocking begin (or “nurturing Mother Nature”)

Monday night, we began blocking As You Like It.

A few words on process, and then the question of Adam’s importance.

There be spoilers ahead…

AYL: horns (musical edition)

OK, so I’ve discussed interstitial music for As You Like It before… but there’s music within the play itself as well.

One such song come from late in the play, and goes by any number of titles, from “What Shall He Have” to “The Deer Song” to “The Lusty Horn” and “The Lusty Horn Song”…

AYL: Flashback Friday — music edition

So, as we move from read-throughs to blocking rehearsals for As You Like It, I finally got a chance to share some of my interstitial music choices with my cast this week. I realized not all of them are going to work, but the concept–I think–is solid.

Now for you, gentles all, I don’t want to give away all my spoilery musical goodness, but…

AYL: the 1992 version

So, as part of my due diligence, directing As You Like It, I like to go back and look at some of the past versions of the play that I can find on film or video.

This week, the 1978 version…

AYL: scheduling rehearsals redux

So, Friday, I was all happy and proud of myself that I had completed the rehearsal schedule for As You Like It.

As a famed half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder once said, “Don’t get cocky, kid.”

AYL: scheduling rehearsals

Now that rehearsals (or at least read-throughs) have begun for As You Like It, it’s helpful to let the actors know when they need to be there (because, needless to say, with all the characters in the play, not everyone needs to be there every night)…

For those who really want to know #howthesausagegetsmade … here’s a little method of my madness:
