AYL: back from break…

So it’s been almost two weeks since the last rehearsal…

Hope my actors have had a great break. I’ve been getting a little work done…

Been working on the tree…

the tree…

I’ve abandoned the idea of cutting the leaves out of the wood (lauan) because it’s just too damned complex. Instead–and again, thanks to the cast–there’s a new idea: I’m going to print out a boatload of sonnets onto different shades of green cardstock and staple them onto the tree branches.

And this is what I just sent the cast…

Greetings and Happy New Year, Ardenites!

This week, we move into what is the home stretch of our journey. Putting the show together, finishing up the choreography of our fights and dances, and building the major set-piece of our production, the tree.

And that is what this email is all about.

You will find attached a PDF with 62–count ’em!–of Shakespeare’s sonnets. Select 3 of those sonnets, and send me the numbers of the sonnets you’ve picked. When we put together and paint the tree, you will be given the poems, printed on different shades of green card stock, to staple onto our tree, on branches of your choosing. This is a first come, first served offer.

If you choose to not select poems, that’s cool…I’ll pick the poems to put onto the remaining branches; I just want to give you the opportunity to take ownership of the visual look of and set for this show–your show.

See you soon!

So here we go!
