OK, now for something completely different…

If you’ve noticed that my postings have been a tad distracted or not exactly on point lately (or absent altogether–as on Wednesday of this week), you’re not wrong. It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. Time has been tight.

Yes, the ramping up of As You Like It blocking rehearsals is consuming both time and mental bandwidth, as I’m using the video captures to be the basis for the notes I send to actors, and viewing then noting then emailing does take up more time.

Part of the craziness is a cranking up of my job search… tailoring resumes and cover letters to match the algorithmic-ally captured keywords from the job posting is tougher than it sounds (and it doesn’t sound all that easy, does it?).

But my distraction is not because I’ve been busy writing my spec script for the American Shakespeare Center’s “New Contemporaries” contest…  I wish. At this rate, I’m not going to make the June deadline.

It’s not because I’m doing due diligence and reading through The Taming of the Shrew for a possible summer project production. It’s very exciting, but I haven’t been able to put much time into that, either.

No.

The honest truth is that I’m going through a bit of a mid-life crisis. No, not the type where I get a face-lift, buy a Porsche, and start having an affair with some blonde bimbo half my age. She’s only two-thirds my age and a redhead… just kidding (Lisa, really, I’m kidding).

No. I’m taking acting more seriously. Upon prompting of some of the people I’ve worked with over the course of the last few months, I’m pursuing it more actively than I would have ever thought. I’ve got my first headshots (though I haven’t yet finalized which four I’m going to have touched up). I’ve been applying for acting gigs, and even getting some auditions…mostly for student films, but this is how I can build a demo reel for bigger things. And the auditioning takes time (both the search for project to begin with and then prepping for the audition…and then the travel from Ventura County down to LA).

But it’s paying off.

And that’s why I haven’t been as active on blog this week. And that’s why you’re getting this today (actually written yesterday).

Because today, I’m working.

I’m acting.

If I get a chance, I’ll post pics to my Instagram.

Best. Mid-life. Crisis. Ever.
