The Other

Last year, I presented my paper on military homosociality in Much Ado and Othello at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Southern Utah University’s Wooden O Symposium. Had a blast. People were great. And I got to meet Mya Gosling of Good Tickle Brain fame. All in all, an outstanding few days.

Well, now, they’ve released their topic or theme for this year’s conference: Shakespeare and The Other.

From their website:

The conference seeks papers/panels that investigate our 2018 theme: Shakespeare and The Other. Topics could range from marginalized characters, underdogs, and outliers, to inclusivity or diversity in the works of Shakespeare and his contemporaries. We welcome unique interpretations of this theme. This year’s symposium encourages papers and panels that speak to the Utah Shakespeare Festival’s 2018 summer season: The Merchant of Venice, Henry VI Part One, The Merry Wives of Windsor, and Othello.

hmmmmmm…

I’ve been percolating some ideas (cough Tamora from Titus cough) for my Masters’ capstone which I’ll begin in early July. The symposium is in early August. Time conflict or synchronicity? Can I align the two? Of course, the symposium paper would be but a part of the larger paper, but can I–more importantly, SHOULD I–attempt to write the capstone from the inside out?

Decisions, decisions…

The deadline for submissions is May 1, so I don’t have much time…
