#BardMadness: Sweet Sixteen results!

OK, the Sweet Sixteen round is in the books for our Bard Madness bracket. And like the NCAA tournament, there have been a few upsets and squeakers…

#1 Romeo and Juliet barely got by #16 The Tempest, 54% to 46%

#9 Richard III upset #8 King Lear by a surprising wide 67% to 33%

#29 The Winter’s Tale continued its Cinderella dance with a 57% to 43% squeaker over #13 The Comedy of Errors

#21 Richard II was upset by #28 The Merchant of Venice, 54% to 46%

#11 Hamlet absolutely demolished #6 Measure for Measure, 86% to 14%

#3 A Midsummer Night’s Dream easily dispatched #19 The Taming of the Shrew, 64% to 36%

#10 Much Ado About Nothing made easy work of and upsetting #7 Twelfth Night, 69% to 31%

and

#2 Macbeth wiped out #15 Henry IV, 71% to 29%

  1. Have to say that I’m ecstatic that Richard III won through, and simultaneously gutted that Richard II lost so narrowly. There weren’t any winners, as far as I’m concerned, when it came to Macbeth and Henry IV …

  2. There go 2 of my all-time favorites, Taming of the Shrew (first play I ever saw, at age 6!) and Henry IV. Not to mention 2 slightly lesser favorites, Measure for Measure (I KNEW Hamlet would take it) & Richard II (now that one’s a surprise).
    On the other hand, good for Richard III!
    What’s that thing about the thrill of victory & the agony of defeat?
