Bard Madness–play-in: King John vs. The Two Gentlemen of Verona

It’s March and time for Madness. But here at the Bill / Shakespeare Project, it’s not about the round ball, but about the grand Bard (of Avon, that is!). We’ve got a 32-play bracket, but to squeeze into that 32-seeding slot, we have (like the NCAA itself) a play-in game:

King John vs. The Two Gentlemen of Verona

Which is your fave?

The winner will go up against Romeo and Juliet in the first half of the first round.

Beginning tomorrow, the second half of the first round (yeah, I know that’s counter-intuitive, but just go with me)!

  1. I find King John way more interesting. Constance & the Bastard are meaty roles; queen mother Eleanor & young Prince Arthur are plum smaller roles at the opposite ends of the age spectrum. I think the play is a fertile mess. 2 Gentlemen has a lovely song & a dog & prepares us for later Shakespearean forests, but a lot of the comedy feels canned.
