Friday (non)Film Focus: Othello

OK, no Tempest today. No, today is a kind of save-the-date(s) announcement for…

California Shakespeare Company’s Othello (poster by our talented Iago, Alan Waserman)

Yep, that long-delayed California Shakespeare Company production of Othello is finally hitting the boards at the beginning of next month. We had planned to mount it last fall, but hit a couple of casting snags. But with a 50% new cast, we’ve hit the ground running in this new year with rehearsals for a February run.

Your humble Bard ambassador is playing Brabantio, Desdemona’s father (and yes, he is another in the series of Shakespearean “d!ck dads”… there’s a thesis in there somewhere). The whole cast is excellent, and they’re your real draw (well, that and the language).

Our opening night is three weeks away, on Friday, February 2. We’ll run Friday and Saturday nights at 8pm and Sunday matinees at 3pm through Saturday, February 23 (save for Sunday, February 4, which is the Super Bowl, so no show then). There will be an additional two Thursday evening shows on February 15 and 22.

We’ll be at the Playhouse 101 in Agoura Hills, so if you’re in the Ventura County area of southern California, check it out. Tickets ($20 general admission; $18 for students and seniors) can be purchased at BrownPaperTickets.com.
