Coriolanus flashback

Yeah, I know. Coriolanus was so…last month.

But when something comes onto the radar that is this fascinating–well, it’s time to put off that Act One synopsis of Cymbeline and share it with you, my band of Bard brothers…

A couple of days back, the folks over at the A.V. Club posted on a discovery they have made, via Now This.

[damn it, why didn’t I think of a rap musical when I was trying to come up with a way to stage the play]

A screenplay adaptation of Coriolanus.

Set during the 1992 Los Angeles riots.

As a rap musical.

Co-written by Steve Bannon.

The folks over at Now This put together a table-read of the screenplay for your edification and entertainment.

Now, I’m all for “out-there” interpretations, but… it’s not very good (to its credit, though, it’s not as absolutely bat-sh!t crazy horrible as it sounds [of course, that’s a pretty low bar…]). The idea–in theory–might make for some interesting, politically charged, thought-provoking theater; the execution, however, leaves quite a bit to be desired.
