Capsule (audio) review: Titus Andronicus

synapses firing wild and blind today…

listening to the new album by Titus Andronicus (yes, a New Jersey punk band with a name taken from Shakespeare), an album titled The Most Lamentable Tragedy (I know, another Bard of Avon reference)…

and those Jersey devils are covering “A Pair of Brown Eyes”…

from the freakin’ Pogues

[fun fact, that band’s original name was Pogue Mahone… the English-ish version of the Gaelic “póg mo thóin” meaning “kiss my ass”]

… and these guys just kill it…

may very well be the best version I’ve heard (cover–Peter Case did a great one–or not… yeah, sacrilege, I know [another fun fact: the Pogues’ original (be careful of this video… it’s pretty much the definition of “WTF”) came from an album called–I kid you not–“Rum, Sodomy, and the Lash“… produced by–wait for it–Elvis Costello])

ANYWAY… like I said: killer version (it starts slow, but give it a chance… it rollicks and rocks and rolls by the end)

This has been a test of your emergency new-music broadcast system…

You may resume your regularly scheduled boredom…
